You may have heard this time and time again, but it truly is one of the most important things you need to know when playing any kind of mixed poker variant. When playing the 7 Game mix at Full Tilt, there are 7 poker variations played. The 7 games are; fixed limit Holdem, Omaha Hi-Lo, Stud Hi and Stud Hi-Lo. Followed be a round of no limit Holdem and then a round of pot limit Omaha Hi. Make sure you are familiar with all the games even if you are new to playing some of them, knowing a little is better than going in blind.

Be Familiar with Different Betting Limits

One of the biggest things that yells newbie besides buying in for too little chips is not knowing how much you can or should bet. Too often you will see fixed limit players who decide to give a mixed game a chance who get to the no limit rounds and don’t know how to bet. You will see them just doubling the bet as you would in fixed limit. Any no limit player knows this is crazy and will get you way too many callers from people with draws. Another big reason being unfamiliar with the betting limits can cause big problems is because fixed limit players are not used to having to put all their chips in the pot on one bet and big bets may scare them off a good hand. This can be same for the opposite of course. No limit players that are not used to fixed limit often go on tilt because they are not familiar with the betting limits. They have a good hand and want to raise it from $3 to a whole lot more instead of the $6 allowed. As mentioned above, minimum raises get a lot of callers, so when 6, 8 suited beats pocket kings because the kings were unable to raise high enough, the player often gets mad and goes on tilt. None of these situations are good, so be sure you check not only what games are played, but what betting limits are used as well.

    Assess the Table

When playing any poker game, you want to always assess the table first to see what kind of stacks other players at the table are playing with. This lets you know about how much you should buy in for to be able to play at your best. When playing a 7 game mix, assessing the table is also a very good thing because it allows you to see how other players are playing and what games they are playing. Many good mixed poker players will tell you that playing strong when playing the games you are best at and sitting back and playing minimum hands on games you are not as familiar with is the best way to profit at mixed poker. If you are a good player in the games which players at the table don’t really seem to be playing strongly, you are probably more comfortable with the game than them and this can be a good time to make a move and earn a few extra bucks.

    Play Your Strengths

As mentioned above, when you are playing a mixed game which consists of several different poker games, your best move is to play your strengths. What this means is that if you are playing the 7 game mix available at Full Tilt and you know that you are a pretty good Holdem and Omaha player but your stud skills could use some improvement, sit back during the stud games and only play when you have to. By playing the games you are more familiar with and waiting on the ones you are not, you are less likely to get into hands you shouldn’t have been in during your unfamiliar rounds. This also presents a tight, strong presence to other players at the table with you.

    Don’t Be Fresh Meat

When sitting down at a new poker table, you are likely surrounded by strangers who know nothing of the way you play. However, without ever seeing you play a hand, if you come sit down at the table with the minimum buy in, there are sure to be a couple sharks at the table that think you look like a nice little fishy snack. This is another reason why assessing your poker table before sitting down is so crucial. The minimum buy in at most casinos online and off is usually 10 times the big blind. However if you sit down at a $3/$6 table with only $30, don’t be surprised if you hear some players snickering or whispering ‘here fishy fishy’. This makes you look like fresh meat, like you don’t know what you are doing. Always be sure to assess the poker table before sitting and make sure that your bankroll can handle buying in for the average amount.
