February, 2012 - Pokerstars is the largest poker room on the world even though they no longer accept U.S. players. They hold too many records for me to list here. With 250,000+ players during peak hours they have the highest traffic by far. They have action twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, at the 7 Card Stud, Stud High Low and Razz tables. During peak hours you'll find over 450, 7 Card Stud players, 300+ Stud HL players and 110+ Razz poker players. The VIP program at Pokerstars is really in a class of it's own as well. Poker Stars was forced to stop accepting American players in April, 2011. Out of the four poker sites shut down, Pokerstars is the only one that is still open. Full Tilt Poker, their long-time arch-rival, was closed down in late June and has yet to pay their players. Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet were closed in April and have since declared bankruptcy so they won't be refunding anyone. Pokerstars honored all debts and quickly refunded all U.S. players. Pokerstars VIP Program
Pokerstars offers players the most rewarding VIP program in the online poker industry. There are 6 levels and each one comes with it's own unique benefits. The most important benefit is the FPP multiplier. When you sign-up you will start off as a Bronze Star player. Each VPP will be worth 1 FPP. Once you have reached 750 VPP's you will achieve the Silver Stars status and have $10 in free Pokerstars money credited to your account. You will also start earning 1.5 FPP's for each VPP, that is a 50% increase. You will also be eligible for special freerolls. Now that you are earning points faster you will hit the 3,000 FPP mark with ease. This is the Gold Star level and you will start earning 2 FPP's for each VPP. You will have also received $30 in free bonuses as well (see the chart below). At 7,500 FPP's you will achieve Platinum Stars status and will be earning 2.5 FPP's for ever VPP. Your Stellar Reward bonuses will also be increased from $10 to $50. Supernova and Supernova Elite status will bump your VPP-FPP ratio up to 3.5 and 5 respectively. They really have too many ongoing promotions to list here and they change every month so it would take a lot of effort to keep this section updated.
Poker stars - the best stud, stud 8 and razz tournaments
Stud tournament players will also be happy with the selection they find at Poker Stars. They have both sit n go and regular multi table Seven Card stud tournaments running all day every day. While these tournaments aren’t as frequent as the more popular Texas Hold’em tournaments, there are plenty available and all it takes is a little patience to find ones that are filling up.
Customer service and banking
Poker Stars has built a reputation of being one of the most trusted and reliable poker sites out there. Historically though, their support has been terrible. I've noticed a change in the last year or so though. I usually get a response from them within 12 hours. While this isn't the best, it certainly isn't the worst. They only offer email support at the moment but hopefully that will change in the near future. Banking at Poker Stars is reliable and secure. One of the reason for their success is the lightning fast withdrawals and 100% successful deposit rate.
