triple stud pokerApril, 2021 - Triple Stud Poker is the newest game at Pokerstars, the top Stud poker room in 2021. Triple Stud is a mixed poker game that everyone reading this will likely find very interesting. A mixed poker game is really just a collection of two or more card games that are played in rotations. Most of you probably have a little experience at mixed games like H.O.R.S.E poker since they can be very profitable for Stud poker players. Triple Stud is HORSE poker without the Holdem and Omaha HL, making it the most Stud friendly mixed poker variant out there. Triple Stud includes the three main Stud poker games; 7 Card Stud, Razz and Stud HL. You play each game 8 hands and then move on to the next. Poker Stars has already created daily tournaments and the traffic at the Triple Stud ring tables is already growing. This article will provide some basic information on the rules of Triple Stud along with some strategies and tips.

How to play triple stud poker

The first thing you must do is find the Triple Stud tables. Click on the "Mixed Games" tab and you'll see the Triple Stud tab all the way to the right. Currently Triple Stud Poker is offered at stakes ranging from $.50/$1 to $5/$10. This is the standard procedure when they launch a new poker game/variant. I'm confident that they will be hosting a full range of stakes within a week or two. I won't go into the specific rules for each of the three Stud games as they are covered elsewhere on this web site. Here are some links to the rules articles:

Triple Stud Poker - Commonly Made Mistakes

triple stud strategyIt is important that you always keep track of which game you are playing. It is common for players to become comfortable playing one game and not realize that they have moved to the next game in the rotation. Since all three games use identical dealing formats it will be even easier for Triple Stud players to do this. You can view which game you are currently playing as well as how many more games you will play til the rotation ends at the top of the screen, as shown to the right. When the game changes, the software also puts a message in the middle of the table for a couple seconds.

Triple Stud - Strategy & Tips

The best tip I can give you guys is to use the "take notes" feature. The Triple Stud Poker community will be relatively small so you'll be able to tag a majority of the other players within a week or so. This information will come in handy and can make the difference between winning and losing. Here are a few things you should keep an eye out for and make notes about when you spot them:

    • Strengths & Weaknesses - Every mixed game player have strengths and weaknesses. Some Triple Stud players will be very good at Stud and Stud HL while being mediocre at Razz, or vice-versa. It will be important for you to monitor how each player plays each game. Some will play Stud very aggressively and Razz very passively. Others will bluff a lot or chase high hands in heads-up scenarios while playing Stud Hi-Lo. Taking notes on these things will give you a huge advantage over the competition.
    • New Players - After you've been playing Triple Stud for a while you will have records on most of the players. When a new player comes along you'll be able to easily spot them since they don't have any notes. Some of these will be experienced Stud poker players that just found out about Triple Stud but others will be rookies that just want to "try out the new game". You'll have no trouble figuring out which one is which after a few hands. You'll be able to change your play accordingly to dominate the newbies while finding the weaknesses of the other players.

It's only a matter of time before Pokerstars starts hosting big Triple Stud Poker tournaments. This is where you can make a lot of money. Keep an eye out for guaranteed events. Poker Stars (Read Review) always offers some very nice overlays when they launch a new game. They do this to entice players to try out the new game. Not only will the tournament have an overlay but that overlay will also attract inexperienced players.
